2024 Haunted Forest & Jack-O-Lantern Walk

The Gilmore Park Community League is hosting a Haunted Forest & Jack-O-Lantern Walk in Gilmore Park, October 26 from 6-9PM!  Bring your pumpkins before 6pm and wear a costume to win prizes. Pumpkins can be picked up after 9pm. Plus, there will be a fun maze through the Gilmore Park Community Garden!  This is a free community event, Food Bank donations are welcome.  Happy Halloween!!

Truth and Reconcilliation Film Screening

September 30th, the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation, explore the rich and diverse cultures, voices, experiences and stories of the First Nations, Inuit, and Métis peoples. Start or continue your learning journey by joining Glen Allan neighbours in Gilmore Park for a viewing of the short film - Treaty Walk. Please dress warmly and bring your own chair or blanket. Also, if you have one, wear an orange shirt.

Movie Night in the Park - Sept. 7

Join your Glen Allan neighbours for a Dessert Potluck and Movie Night in Gilmore Park on Saturday, September 7. The potluck will begin at 7PM and the movie IF  will begin at dusk. There will also be a DVD Swap! Bring your favourite dessert, chairs and warm blankets! 

Collision in Glen Allan - Aug. 13

Royal Canadian Mounted Police in Alberta (Strathcona County RCMP Detachment) Sherwood Park, Alta. – On Aug. 13, 2024, Strathcona County RCMP responded to a serious injury collision involving two pedestrians on Georgian Way in Sherwood Park. According to the initial investigation, a vehicle travelling north on Georgian Way collided with two pedestrians and a dog on the sidewalk. The vehicle then came to a stop on a residential lawn. A 36-year-old male and an 11-month-old child were transported to the hospital with serious injuries, while their dog received minor injuries and was taken to the vet. The male driver of the vehicle did not sustain any injuries. RCMP do not believe that speed and alcohol were factors in the incident. Pitch In & Bike Repair Cafe - May 4

MAY THE FOURTH be with us as we Pitch In and clean up our neighbourhood. You pick up the garbage at a time and location that works for you (Greengrove Park, Garland Park, Gilmore Park, Granville Park or other areas that need attention). Glen Allan resident Bob Gillies will be stationed in Gilmore Park to assist with bike repairs and to teach youth bike repair skills. Coffee and juice will be served, bring a chair, bring your bike if it needs a tune up and connect with your neighbours! Dressing as Star Wars characters is optional (but encouraged!)

2024 Neighbourhood Survey

Without knowing our neighbours, we miss out on all sorts of ways in which they could enrich our lives -- from borrowing a cup of sugar to benefitting from their special skills -- according to journalist Peter Lovenheim  neighbourhoods matter. Glen Allan matters to the volunteers who form the Gilmore Park Community League. Please take a few minutes to complete a NEIGHBOURHOOD SURVEY  and help shape the health, safety and connectivity of our Sherwood Park neighbourhood!

Newsletter Project Coordinator Position - Apply by March 25!

Newsletter Project Coordinator The Gilmore Park Community League (GPCL) is looking for a Glen Allan resident to assist with a neighbourhood newsletter project. The Newsletter Project Coordinator, will be responsible for compiling content, seeking business support, layout design, printing, and delivery of newsletters.  This is a one-month project to be completed by May 1, 2024. The Coordinator will be compensated with an honorarium of up to $500. The time commitment is 15-20 hours. Youth ages 16-24 are welcome and encouraged to apply. Responsibilities: Plan a timeline for completion of project tasks  Communication with contacts (businesses, volunteers, suppliers & neighbours) Draft and deliver letters to potential business supporters Research printing and delivery costs within budget Compile newsletter content with the help of volunteers  Create an engaging and visually appealing newsletter layout Bundle newsl...

This year the Gilmore Park Community League would like to celebrate the month of February by hosting a number of community Dates. Connect with each other over the month by meeting a new neighbour over coffee or tea, going for a walk with a friend, making a card for a loved one or neighbour, enjoying the story of Bob Marley at Movie Night or joining in on a free skate at GARC.
