Coyote Sightings in Gilmore Park

Image
Coyotes have been sighted November 3 & November 11 in the morning at the entrance of Gilmore Park off Graham Road. Neighbour Jackie said "The coyote did not react to me stopping my vehicle. He just sat and watched me then walked over into the tree on the right side. There have been recent concerns in the River Valley in the city with them taunting dogs".  Neighbour Adam said" I want to let everyone know that I saw a large Coyote going east down graham road this morning (7am Sunday). He was larger then others that I have seen in the past in the area.

Harmful Plant in Gilmore Park

Image
A neighbor has reported the presence of a harmful plant in the park: There are Baneberry plants in Gilmore Park in the tree area on the main path just by the fallen log.  All parts of the plant is poisonous with the berries being most toxic. Two berries can kill a child. So we contacted the County and this is what they had to say: I have had our Environmental Tech and Biologist take a look at the plant and they have confirmed it is a Red Baneberry (Actaea ruba). This is a native North American plant and is a sign of good biodiversity in your small urban forest. Although all parts of the plants are poisonous accidental poisoning is not likely as the berries are extremely bitter. There have also been no documented cases of children dying from Red Baneberry in North America. I would recommend letting the community league know that these are in your forest and to educate children on what they are and to stay away .  If you or any members of you community have any concerns please

Are you missing a cat?

Image
A small grey and white cat has been hanging around Grant Ave for the last week. Very friendly and affectionate if you can get near, but unfortunately it looks like the magpies have been trying to get it. It seems like it is an indoor cat that has been taken care of.  Please pass this on to help us find the owners, or someone who would be willing to foster him in the meantime. Suspicious Person Reported

At approximately 4:00 AM on March 26, a male who appeared to be in his late thirties approached a parked vehicle outside of a homeowners garage on Glenbrook Blvd. The man essentially walked down the driveway behind the homeowners house. The man was asked what he was doing by a neighbour who was outside at the time, and he said he was just looking around before he sauntered off towards Georgian Way. Police were called and came immediately, but the male could not be located. Late thirties, grey hoodie, boots, dark jacket. He was likely looking for easily accessible valuables, or a vehicle to steal or a garage to break into. If you see any suspicious people near your home please call the RCMP complaints line at (780) 467-7741. Kudos to the RCMP for their fast response time. We have reported suspicious persons in our neighbourhood a few times throughout the years, and their responses have always been immediate and professional.
